“Thank you Tash for introducing me to Nordic Walking. I have really felt the benefits since my beginner session in February. Last week’s holiday to the Peak District proved how useful the technique is for increasing my capability for sustained walking and navigating slopes in particular as well as the added use of the poles to bat nettles and brambles out of the way. Despite more hilly terrain and longer distances it felt less like hard work compared with a previous holiday where distance walking was more trying. I could tell it was working as my arms felt stronger too. My husband commented how much of a difference the poles seemed to be making and they are now a fixture in my packing list when going away.”

“Joining the Nordic Nomads walking group has been one of the best decisions I've made. After my hip replacement, I found myself becoming more and more inactive. Laziness crept in, and I struggled to get moving again. This group gives me the push I need, and I've met so many wonderful, interesting people along the way. The benefits to both body and mind have been incredible—I feel healthier, more energized, and genuinely happy. After a long day at work, there's nothing more refreshing than putting on my walking shoes, breathing in the fresh air, and enjoying the camaraderie of such a positive group. Thank you, Nordic Nomads, for helping me rediscover the joy of walking and the great outdoors!”

8 months ago I took up Nordic walking again after a few years break. I have recently had an occupational health check which gave me a lung function result of 92% and which the clinician indicated was an excellent result for someone who is 77 years old. In exploring with me my lifestyle and exercise regime she indicated that my regular Nordic walking sessions were in all probability a major contributing factor to a healthy lung function.

In August 2023 I fell  for no reason and broke my shoulder, this affected my confidence when walking alone with my dog in the countryside. Subsequently it was discovered I had long term osteoarthritis in my shoulder and osteoporosis. I took a beginners course with Nordic Nomads, as a way of trying to get fitter, increase my confidence and maintain upper body strength and suppleness. I cannot  recommend Nordic walking enough, it is a fun, supportive and friendly way to get fit. I now walk with the group two or three times a week and have completed a couple of the longer monthly walks (approx 7 miles). I have even managed to train my dog  to Nordic walk with me on a waist lead!
